Fred T. Martin Sr.

Fred Thomas Martin Sr., 85, of Martinsville passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018. He was born in Bedford County on October 27, 1932 to Thomas “Tom” Martin and Ruth Geraldine Martin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by brothers; Houston Milton Martin, James Rowland “J.R.” Martin, Leonard Gray Martin and Henry Clay Martin. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lowanda McGuire Martin, daughter, Theresa Cheryl Martin Wright and her husband Kent; sons; Fred Thomas “Freddie” Martin Jr., Timothy Dean “Tim” Martin, and Jeff Porter, who was like a son, grandchildren; Brad Allen Wright and wife Marcia, Melody Lynn Wright, Tanya Michelle Martin, and Fred Thomas “Trey” Martin III, sisters; Yvonne Turner, Dorothy Coleman, Becky Brown and her husband, Dewey, and brother; William Horace Martin and his wife Annie. Mr. Martin was a very successful business man who loved the City of Martinsville. He was passionate and committed to bringing Martinsville back to life through investment in its revitalization and its future. He was instrumental in bringing many businesses to the area. Over the years, Mr. Martin was involved in the community and was chosen Martinsville City Citizen of the year in 1997. In addition, he founded Martin Stables and enjoyed farming and working with cattle and horses. Mr. Martin was a Korean War era veteran. In addition, he was a long-standing active member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at McCabe Memorial Baptist Church and will be officiated by Reverend Dr. G.H. Vaughn and Reverend Lewis Harris. Interment will be at Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at McKee-Stone Funeral Home.
