Herbert “Pete” Dailey Epperly, Jr., 69, of Martinsville passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019. He was born May 20, 1949 in Roanoke, VA to the late Herbert Dailey Epperly, Sr., and Hazel Edens Epperly.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Thomas Epperly; brother, Dr. Ron Epperly and his wife Wendy; nephew Darren Epperly and his wife Mary; great nieces, Emma and Ellie Epperly.
Pete received his Bachelor’s Degree in History from UNC Wilmington, NC where he played college tennis. He received his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Radford University. He was a teacher for 25 years in the Martinsville City Schools where he also coached football and tennis at Martinsville High School. He was also a high school principal in Goldsboro, NC.
Pete was an avid Carolina Tar Heels Basketball fan and a Pittsburg Steelers fan.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2014 at McKee Stone Funeral Home and will be officiated by Reverend Sarah Whitmore. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
To honor Pete’s love of animals, the family requests memorials be made to the Martinsville Henry County SPCA, at 132 Joseph Martin Highway, Martinsville, VA 24112.
