

Mr. Gibbs was a 27 year veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a WWII and Korean Conflict veteran who served at Pearl Harbor and during the invasion of the Philippines. Upon retirement from the military, he worked as a security officer with Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was a member of the Martinsville Masonic Lodge for over 60 years and was also a member of the Martinsville Elks Club, Mount Olivet Ruritan Club, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Gibbs devoted a tremendous amount of his time working to help support local veteran organizations, the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and the SPCA.
He is survived by his sister Marva Cates and brother Larry Gibbs.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gibbs was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian L. Martin Gibbs; sisters, Hazel Silverthorne, Earline Jones and Ella Cahoon; brothers, Malcolm Gibbs, Hugh Gibbs and Wilber Gibbs.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at McKee Stone Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Mills officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Roselawn Mausoleum where military honors will be presented.
