

John Gerson Ullman, 88, of King’s Grant Retirement Community in Martinsville, died Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at King’s Grant. He was born in Richmond, Virginia on April 22, 1922 to Leo E. and Blanche Heller Ullman. He received his BS degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Chicago and his Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from MIT in Cambridge, MA. He served in the US Navy during World War II where he earned the rank of Lieutenant. John retired from DuPont where he was a research associate and was a member of the Ohev Zion Synagogue in Martinsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Anita Salzberg Ullman.
He is survived by his second wife, Nancy Morris Ullman of the residence at King’s Grant; three daughters, Barbara U. Dudley of Virginia Beach, Sara L. Ullman of Roanoke, and Harriet U. Lakin of Durham, NC and six grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 2:00 P.M.at the Ohev Zion Synagogue in Martinsville with Rabbi Beth Socol and his nephew, the Rev. Richard L. Ullman officiating. Burial will follow in the Ohev Zion Cemetery in Ridgeway.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel.
