Born in Radford on October 9, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Drayton Clifton Carroll and Katherine Segal Carroll. She was a graduate of Martinsville High School, was a member of First Baptist Church of Martinsville, and was a life member of the Virginia Museum of Natural History. Getta retired from the business office of the Martinsville Bulletin after 42 years of service.
Surviving are her sisters, Sybil Cochran of Martinsville and Bonnie Porter of Bainbridge, GA, her brother, Robert Carroll of Martinsville, nieces, Jackie Cochran and Kitty Craft, and nephews, Steven Porter and Ben Cochran.
The funeral service will be at 2 P.M. Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Mckee-Stone Funeral Home with the Rev. John Fulcher officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.
