Louise Martin Lewis

Louise Martin Lewis, 89, of Martinsville, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014. She was born in Roanoke, Virginia, April 23, 1924 to Jesse Booker Martin and Lelia Pasley Martin. Louise graduated from UVA School of Nursing in 1947 and was employed by the Veterans Hospital in Salem, VA for 2 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Alter Guild. She was also a member of the Martinsville Garden Club Auxiliary, Current Events Club and was a life member of the Charity League.

She was born in Roanoke, Virginia, April 23, 1924 to Jesse Booker Martin and Lelia Pasley Martin. Louise graduated from UVA School of Nursing in 1947 and was employed by the Veterans Hospital in Salem, VA for 2 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Martinsville Garden Club Auxiliary, Current Events Club and was a life member of the Charity League.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William R. Martin, Claude D. Martin and Jesse Booker Martin, Jr.

Louise is survived by her husband, Dr. William Dulaney Lewis; her daughter, Janet Lewis Leety; her son, Dr. William Benton Lewis and wife, Debbie, all of Martinsville; five grandchildren, William Edward Leety, Andrew Benton Leety, James Murray Leety and wife, Jessica, William Benton Lewis, Jr. and wife, Ashley, and Sarah Louise Lewis. Four great-grandchildren also survive.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith Ritchie officiating. Entombment in Roselawn Burial Park Abbey will be private.
