Mrs. Martin was born on March 2, 1934 in Vinton, VA to Harris McGuire and Nellie Preston McGuire. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Fred Thomas Martin, Sr.; daughter, Theresa Cheryl Martin Wright and her husband, Kent; and son, Fred Thomas “Freddie” Martin, Jr., brother, Calvin McGuire and sister-in-law, Dorothy Coleman.
Lowanda was a very successful business lady who committed her life to supporting and helping her husband and their children in many businesses in uptown Martinsville and at Martin Stables. Like her husband, Lowanda loved the City of Martinsville and was very passionate and committed to bringing Martinsville back to life through investment in its revitalization and future. Lowanda enjoyed her many years of working with her husband at Martin Stables and on their farm. She was a long-standing active member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church.
Lowanda is survived by her son, Timothy Dean “Tim” Martin and Jeff Porter, who was like a son; grandchildren, Brad Wright and wife, Marcia, Melody Lynn Wright, Tanya Michelle Martin and Fred Thomas “Trey” Martin III and wife, Katie, great grandson, Fred “Thomas” Martin IV, sister-law; Yvonne Turner, Becky Brown and her husband, Dewey, brother-in-law; William Horace Martin, sister-in-law, Stella McGuire, nephews; Richard McGuire, Doug McGuire,Kenny McGuire, Michael McGuire and niece, Sheila McGuire McClung.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at McKee-Stone Funeral Home, 102 Broad Street, Martinsville, VA.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 1:00 PM at McCabe Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend Joe Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
