Martha Jane Spencer Shumate

Jane was born March 21, 1939 as the 10th child born to Walter Efford and Madeline Spencer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Paul, Howard, Wayne, Rudy, Ralph and Frank Spencer; and one sister, Dalavinia S. Covington.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Jesse I. Shumate, Jr. and two sisters, Nancy S. Grant of Abingdon, Va. and Rachel S. Cheatwood of Myrtle Beach, SC.

Jane was a special lady who always had a great outlook on life and always shared a great attitude no matter how troubling life could be. Her laugh was infectious. Jane was known for her love of her husband, Jesse and the many precious cats she nurtured over the years. She will be greatly missed.

A service will be held at a later date.
