

Mary W. Price, 90, of 800 Kings Way Road, Martinsville, died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at her residence. She was born in Axton, September 16, 1919 to the late John and Loula Scarce Winn. She was retired after thirty three years of service with The Virginia Polytechnic Institute Extension Services as a secretary. Mary, worked for five years with the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service (ASCS), in 1943 she became the secretary to the Henry County extension agent. In those days, extension service work revolved around agriculture; and some of her fondest memories were her working closely with the Henry County 4H clubs during their peak in the late 1940s and 50s.
She was a member of the Carroll Memorial United Methodist Church, Axton Home Demonstration Club and President of the Secretarial Group of the West District VPI Extension Office. After her retirement she was a long time member of the Henry County Electoral Board.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband A. Duke Price, one sister Mildred W. Minter, one brother, Masten Winn and a nephew Tommy Minter.
Surviving are two nephews, S. Wayne Minter of Ferryville, Wisconsin and Jessie Roberts of Eden, NC, two special nieces, Polly Minter of Ferryville, Wisconsin and Doris Minter of Ridgeway; two cousins, Betty Frances Scarce of Martinsville and Roger Winn and wife Ruth of Kings Grant, Martinsville; several great nieces and nephew. One great nephew was the name sake of both her husband Duke and Mary; Sterling Price “Pricey” Minter, also Several great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 in Collins-McKee-Stone Martinsville Chapel with Minister Ann Session officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services in the Collins-McKee-Stone Martinsville Chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Kings Grant Fellowship Fund, 300 Kings Way Road, Martinsville or Carroll Memorial United Methodist Church 250 Turner Ashby Road, Martinsville, VA 24112.
