Nancy Smith Stanley

Nancy Smith Stanley, 89, of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. She was born in Stoneville, NC on August 28, 1923 to Joshua Ruffin Smith and Hallie Mae Brown Smith. Upon graduation from Stoneville High School in 1941, she moved to Martinsville and worked for Virginia Underwear and then for DuPont where she retired after 38 ½ of service.

She was a charter member of Fuller Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Melvin Stanley; four brothers, Cecil, Beverly, Oscar, and Garland Smith; three sisters, Zelma Price, Mary Lee Anglin and Iris Joyce.

Surviving are four sisters, Pauline Joyce of Spencer, Louise Stone of Bassett, Ruby Wright of Collinsville and Dorothy Shaw of Greensboro, NC; one brother, Preston Smith of Stoneville, NC; one sister-in-law, Margie S. Dansby of Lee’s Summitt, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, who loved her very much.

The funeral service will be held Monday, July 15, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Fuller Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Fred Hardin and Rev. Francis Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fuller Memorial Baptist Church, 1204 South Askin St., Martinsville, VA 24112.
