Nellie Powell Wright

Nellie Powell Wright, 96, of Martinsville, VA., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 30, 2018 at her home. She was born to the late Virgil E. Powell and Cloter Martin Powell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Lea S. Wright; a grandson, Jacob Smith and great grandson Peyton Helms; brothers, Morris Judd Powell and Thomas O. Powell. She is survived by one son, Reverend L. Stanley Wright, Jr.; one daughter, Rita Wright Shelton (Chris); One granddaughter, Audrey Smith Helms (Jason); two great-granddaughters, Bella and Gabby; two sisters, Marie P. Pack (Elwood) and Stella P. Hankins (Johnnie); one brother, Virgil Lloyd Powell (Joanne) and many special nieces and nephews. She was a faithful member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and taught the Lister Thore Sunday School Class for many years. A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Burial Park at 11:00 a.m. on Monday December 3rd with Reverend Tim Gearheart officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the graveside. The family gives special thanks to the Carilion Clinic for the care of their mother.
