Obituary of Patsy M. Clarke
Patsy (Pat) M. Clarke, 85, of Martinsville, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville. She was born in Henry County on January 23, 1926 to Thomas Joseph Clarke and Nell Gertrude Troutt Clarke. She was a graduate of Martinsville High School and Madison College (JMU). She retired from Ford Insurance Agency in Martinsville where she was employed for many years as an agent and Vice President/Secretary. Pat had a deep love of the church, Calvary Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she was a long time member, serving as a trustee, an elder, and a member of the choir. She was active in many areas of the community, including Piedmont Arts Association where she served a term on the Board of Directors and, since 2004, was treasurer of the PAA Guild. She was also an usher at PAA “On Stage” productions. Her love of animals was evidenced by her strong support of the local SPCA. She was also treasurer of the Book Exchange Club. An avid golfer, Pat was a member of the Lynwood Country Club and a former member of their Board of Directors. She was a member of the Ladies Golf Association and the Grasshoppers, often organizing tournaments for these groups. For many, many years she looked forward to her annual trip to the Master’s Golf Tournament in Augusta, GA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth C. Reynolds; a nephew, Joseph A. Reynolds and a good friend, O. Glen Sheppard. She is survived by one sister, June C. Thorpe of Fairfax, VA; a niece, Laura C. (Cam) Muncks (John) of Severna Park, MD; two nephews, Patrick C. Stafford (Jean) of Great Falls, VA, and Warren M. Reynolds of New Jersey; a special friend, Ed Sherman of Christiansburg and her beloved pet, Buffie. A loving and compassionate person, Pat spent much of her life caring for others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2011at 2:00 P.M. at Calvary Christian Church in Martinsville, with the Rev. Mike Carrow officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be made to Calvary Christian Church, P. O.
