Robert Lloyd Deatherage

Robert Lloyd Deatherage, 39, of Martinsville passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. He was born in Martinsville on November 10, 1978 to Michael H. Deatherage and Nancy P. Riggs. He was the grandson of the late George H. and Ilene H. Deatherage, and Elbert Bailey and Geneva Bailey Manning.
Robert is survived by his parents, Michael H. Deatherage and Nancy P. Bailey Deatherage Riggs; his son, Archer Barbour Deatherage; brothers, Lewis C. Deatherage and Chris J. Deatherage and his wife Christy; nephew, Lane; nieces, Kylee and Lily Deatherage; aunt, Judge Susan N. Deatherage, and his former wife, Elizabeth Barbour Deatherage.
Robert received his Bachelor’s degree from Radford University and his law degree from Appalachian School of Law. He worked as an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Franklin County from 2006 to 2015. He was president of the Franklin County Bar Association from 2013 to 2015. Robert also served as a Special Assistant to the U.S. Attorney Office on homicide investigations. He was certified as a “top gun” homicide and drug prosecutor and computer forensic specialist. Since 2016 he owned and operated a law firm in Martinsville.
Robert enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his son and friends. He enjoyed snow skiing, boating, water sports, motor cycles, music and caring for animals.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at McKee-Stone Funeral Home. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
