Obituary of Ronald Mitchell Stone Sr.
Ronald Mitchell Stone, Sr., 77, of Moneta, Va. passed away Monday June 3, 2024. He was born August 6, 1946 in Henry County to Carl M. Stone and Velma B. Stone. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Lee Stone and his brother-in-law, Douglas Shelburne. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Anne Stone; son, Ron Stone, Jr. (Tara); daughter, Michelle Stone-Agee (Patrick); grandchildren, Robbie Agee (Elizabeth), Benjamin Agee, James Agee and Ronald “Trace” Stone, III; brother-in-law, Charles "Cephas" Shelburne (Polly); several nieces and nephews. Ronnie served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was sea survival school training instructor. Ronnie loved God and his family above all. He was an Elder and Deacon of Stone Memorial Christian Church. Ronnie was the owner and operator of Stone Funeral Home, Stone Convalescent Supply, and Stone Ambulance Service. He also served as the Emergency Medical Director of Martinsville Speedway for many years and was life member of Martinsville Henry County Rescue Squad. He served on many of the community board of directors including Virginia Governor's Advisory Council for EMS, Virginia Transportation Safety Board, Crime Stoppers, Martinsville- Henry County Exchange Club and Martinsville-Henry County Red Cross. He was a member of the Red Cross for more than 40 years and was a first aid/CPR instructor. Most recently, he was involved with the Franklin County Sheriff Office in their COPS program. He was an avid stamp collector and thoroughly enjoyed genealogy. He also enjoyed traveling and hiking. A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:50 pm on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Stone Memorial Christian Church. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm and will be officiated by Minister Tim Wood and Reverend Dr. J.D. Harmon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy, (C/O Mission trip program), 1449 Hendricks Store Road, Moneta, VA. 24121.
