Samuel William Rowland

Samuel William Rowland, 73, of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. He was born in Halifax County, November 23, 1940 to Jesse William Rowland and Earlene Millner Rowland, both deceased. Sam served in the Army in Germany where he was in the same company and befriended Elvis Presley. He established Sam’s Gutter Shop where he was owner and operator for 47 years and was a member of TPA in Martinsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Thomas Rowland.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlotte Hairfield Rowland of the residence; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Darrell Pruitt of Ridgeway, one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Pattie Rowland of the Figsboro Community; three grandchildren, Kelly Michele Flippin and husband, Brandon, Jody Pruitt and Travis Pruitt; two brothers, Steve Allen Rowland and Richard (Rick) Rowland, both of Martinsville.

The family will receive friends Friday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville and other times at the residence.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 3:00 pm at McKee-Stone Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Haywood Alcorn officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
