

Thomas Junior Cox, 88, formerly of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. He was born in Henry County, February 14, 1925 to Harry Trevor Cox and Irene Spangler Cox. He served in the Navy during WWII aboard the USS Rizzi and participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy in the amphibious division. He retired from DuPont with over 38 years of service and was a member of Fontaine Baptist Church. Tom was an avid golfer and Atlanta Braves fan and also served as coach and umpire for over 12 years with the Pony League.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen C. Eggleston; three brothers, G. Wallace Cox, John D. Cox and Harry G. Cox.
Surviving are two daughters, Brenda C. Campbell of Ridgeway and Teresa J. Cox of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Sara Jo McKinney (Matt), Parker Campbell and Thomas Clayton Cox; five sisters, Lorena C. Compton, Juanita C. Ramsey, Barbara C. Martin (J.C.), Clara C. Mize (Jackie), Frances C. Hundley (Doug); two brothers, Jesse L. Cox (Mary Ruth) and R. Kennon Cox (Martha); one sister-in-law, Mildred Cox and one brother-in-law, Wesley Eggleston.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville with the Rev. Ray Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park with full military honors by the Navy Reserve and Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the funeral service at McKee-Stone and other times at the home of the daughter, Brenda Campbell in Ridgeway.
