Virginia Stone Matson

Virginia Stone Matson, 92, of Martinsville, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Stanleytown Health Care Center. She was born in Henry, Virginia, April 24, 1922 to John Smith Stone and Mamie Grogan Stone Lambeth. She was a graduate of Martinsville High School and Mary Baldwin College.

Virginia was a charter member of Calvary Christian Church where she worked faithfully and also served as organist.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur W. Matson.

Surviving are two daughters, Penny Hoffman of Murrells Inlet, SC and Phyllis Ann Via of Danville; one son, Art Matson of Meredith, NH; seven grandchildren, Chelsey Hoffman, Matthew Hoffman, Joshua Hoffman, William (Billy) Via, Cort Via, Art Matson, Christine Matson and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Monday, May 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. Mike Carrow officiating.

Friends may call at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Christian Church General Fund or Community Meals Fund, P. O. Box 3844, Martinsville, VA 24115.
