William “Bill” Edward Higgs, 82, of Ridgeway, Va. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 26, 2025. He was born in Ridgeway, July 2, 1943, to Edward Fontaine Higgs, Jr. and Mary Louise Hall Higgs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Calvin Wayne Higgs, his honorary grandson, Toby Boaz, and grandson-in-law, Spec. B Shane Coleman.
Bill is survived by the love of his life, Mary Lou Trainham Higgs, whom he married almost 60 years ago on February 26, 1966. They share two daughters, Patricia Lynn Palmer (Jimmy Marlowe) and Jennifer Tucker ( Steve Moore); three granddaughters, Heather Brooks (Jimmy Brooks), Jessica Earnest (Drew Earnest), Mary Ann Tucker; thirteen very loved great grandchildren, Edward “TC” Coleman (Arleth), Shyanna Coleman, Juan Salgado, Willow Boaz, Junior Boaz, Ashlee Brooks, Kaylee Brooks (Dallas), Dre Cobbs, Branson Earnest, Athena Hollandsworth, Evander Lloyd, Arius Lloyd and Ellowyn Tucker; one very loved great great granddaughter, Maci Coleman. Bill is survived by his brother Drewey Lee Higgs (Linda); sister-in-law, Joy Faye and brother-in-law, AJ Spencer. He is also survived by many other beloved family members and friends.
Bill was a lover of all sports. You could find him keeping score for his favorite baseball teams, the Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox. He would be glued to the TV on Sundays watching NASCAR races where he cheered on Jeff Gordan and later Chase Elliott. He would finish off the day watching the Washington Commanders. To beat the summer heat he loved being inside watching professional golf.
Bill also loved listening to bluegrass music and spending time with his wife and family. He also enjoyed bowling and made many long-time friends in his bowling league at Druid Hills. He also enjoyed playing Rook.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:50 pm on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at McKee-Stone Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm and will be officiated by Dale Coleman, with special singing by Kelly Ratcliff. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, Va.
The family will also be receiving friends at the home of his daughter, Patricia Palmer.
