Betty Jane {Schalow} Crowl, a longtime resident of Vevay Township, Mason, passed away on April 3, 2021. Betty was a loving wife of 73 years to her husband, Colon. She was a wonderful mother to Jim, Cherie and Cindy. A loving grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to all she met. Preceding her in death was her soulmate husband, Colon of 73 years. Her parents William and Olia (Teske) Schalow. Five siblings Alfred, Lodema, Delmer, Dorothy and Mabel. One grandson, Joey.
Betty was born in Winfield Township in Montcalm County, Michigan on February 25, 1926 and lived on a farm with her parents until moving to Lansing in 1943. She attended Kelsey country school and graduated from Morley High School in 1943. She worked in various accounting jobs for her whole career. Schaberg Detreich Lumber Company. Michelson Baker Lumber Co. And Mason State Bank. Her many interests included gardening, sewing, and baking. She was well known for her elderberry pies, and her black raspberry jelly. She enjoyed entertaining, playing bridge and euchre and being a farmer’s wife and homemaker. She was also known for sewing beautiful baby quilts with the quilting ladies from All Saint Lutheran Church. She was a leader in the Skeeter Hill 4-H Club. A proud Charter Member of All Saints Lutheran Church. Charter Member of the Mason Area Historical Society.
Family was the utmost importance to Betty. She is survived by her children Jim (Denise) Crowl, Cherie (Wayne) Mitchell and Cindy (Rick) Luce and special daughters “Linda and Marie”. 22 Grandchildren, 30 Greatgrandchildren and 2 Great, great granddaughters. Sister-in-law, Dorlene Bayhan and many cherished relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 13th from 3 to 7 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home on 621 S. Jefferson St., Mason, Michigan. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 14th at 11 am at the Mason Community Church, 1000 E. Columbia St. Mason, MI. Pastor Erick Johnson will officiate.
