Charles Henry Shaub

October 27, 1945September 13, 2019

On Friday, September 13th, 2019, Charles Henry Shaub passed away at the age of 73. Charles, known to his family and friends as Chuck, grew up in Lansing, Michigan where he worked as an engineer for General Motors from college until his retirement. At a party in Lansing he met Peg, and in 1968, they married, moved to an old farmhouse in Mason, Michigan (which he remodeled and expanded himself) and raised two sons, Paul and Nathan.

Chuck was a kind, loving, optimistic and patient husband, father, grandpa and friend who was always ready to take on a house project, share a cup of coffee, help a friend build a cabin, enjoy an afternoon snack of beer and cheese, lend a hand remodeling an attic or sing corny songs to his grandkids at bedtime. Chuck loved spending time with his wife, and together they traveled the world and attended many a music festival. He also had numerous hobbies including fishing, hunting and gardening. His pancake recipe is renowned among family and friends.

Chuck was preceded in death by his sister, Jane; mother, Marian; and father, Robert. He is survived by his wife Peg, sons, Paul and Nathan, daughters-in-law, Connie and Samantha; and his two grandchildren, Hazel and Quinn.

There will be a memorial service at 11am Saturday, September 28 at the Mason First Presbyterian Church (131 E. Maple St). Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, September 27, from 5 pm to 7 pm and on Saturday from 10am until service time.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your favorite charity in memory of Chuck.

So sorry for your loss, Peg. We were saddened to hear about Chuck's passing. Our prayers for you and your sons. We are unable to attend the services; but will have you in our thoughts on Saturday. We will not forget the good times we had rolling strikes, spares and gutter balls in our mixed doubles league. Those were the good old days. Blessings to you and your family.

I lived nest door to the Shaubs and remember listening to the Lone Ranger and Sargent Preston with Chuck in his basement. A good man who I know will be missed. I will keep his family in my prayers.

Peg and family. Glen and I have lost a wonderful friend and are very saddened by the news. Chuck and Peg were our movie and dinner friends and we will miss Chuck and our enjoyable times. Chuck was a very happy and relaxing friend. We heard about their travels to many places and knew that he and Peg were perfect together. We wish that Peg and family can be filled with wonderful memories. Our love and best wishes in this difficult time.

Really loved to spend time with Peg & Chuck; always so much and knowledge and helpfulness to share; Seemed like they knew a lot about everything, but you ‘had to ask them to share it’, both of them are very modist.

Please accept the condolences of Gerry and Martha Schwab. This was such a shock for us. I (Martha) have known Chuck since kindergarten at Foster. We went through 13 years of school together and I remember always wondering whether Chuck or I would get to stand on the first chair for our yearly school picture. Later we were pleased to discover that Paul and our son Matt would be going through 13 years of school together at North Aurelius and later Mason Jr & Sr high school. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Peg, Nathan, Paul, and families.

Peg, so sorry for your loss. Hugs and prayers. I do remember having the best blueberry pancakes on our adventure in the UP.

Peg, I was absolutely shocked when I learned of Chuck's passing. Please know the Jewell family is thinking of you, Nathan, and Paul. May you all find comfort in the wonderful memories you have of Chuck. It has been many years since we were neighbors but it was always nice running into you and Chuck at the different music gatherings. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Fondly, Sandy Jewell Worthington.

I'm saddened that I didn't know Chuck and Peg more than I do. But I do know that he was an awesome person who loved the people that I love. I watched him being a grandpa to Hazel and Quinn and smiled at the thought of how blessed they were to have him in their lives.
I know this is a terrible loss to your family Chuck but your memories will live on.
