Charles led a life marked by dedication—to his country, his work, and most importantly, his family. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served with honor supporting the Martin MGM-18 LaCrosse Field Artillery. His commitment to service continued long after his military years through decades of work as an electrician at the Detroit-Windsor Canadian Tunnel. His steady hands and sharp mind contributed to one of the region’s most vital transportation links.
In October 1954, Charles married Anne, beginning a partnership that would span an extraordinary seventy years. Together they built a life rooted in love and mutual respect. Their enduring bond was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew them.
Charles was a devoted father to his daughter Sandra and her husband Mark. He took immense pride in his grandchildren—Chelsea and her husband Jake, and Nicole and her husband Doug—and found great joy in watching his great-grandchildren Isaac and Oliver grow. Family gatherings were among his greatest pleasures; he cherished every moment spent surrounded by those he loved.
Known for his gentle spirit and warm sense of humor, Charles brought lightness and laughter into every room he entered. Whether sharing stories from his younger days or simply enjoying quiet moments with loved ones, he had a way of making people feel seen and valued.
Charles Thomas leaves behind a legacy of kindness, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who carry it forward.
A Graveside Service for Charles will be held Friday, May 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta, MI 49012. Military Honors will be under the auspices of the United States Army.
