Dave was born in 1955 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Casimer A. and MaryJane (Green) Matejko. He grew up in Garden City, Michigan along with his sister Jane. A graduate of Garden City East High School he attended Northern Michigan University for one year and then transferred to Michigan State University. He graduated from Michigan State University in June 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication. While attending MSU he married Veronica Goff in 1975.
Dave served his community in many ways. He was a proud Spartan and past president of the MSU Mid-Michigan Alumni Club. As an avid golfer he volunteered at both LPGA and PGA events in Michigan. One of the joys of his life was attending the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a passionate supporter of the Seats 4 Kids program at Wharton Center through donations and volunteer work.
Dave was a man of deep faith in God and an active member of St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church in Williamston, Michigan. He served on the St. Katherine’s vestry several times and was a lector until his health no longer allowed.
He is remembered by all who knew him for his love of family and friends, dry wit, loyalty and abiding faith. He was a kind and generous man who will be missed by his family and friends.
Dave is survived by wife Veronica, sister Jane (Walled Lake), nieces Amy Wheeler and Serena Gilbert, and nephews James and Adam Stevenson, Matthew and James Goff, and Richard Reuther Jr. In Dave’s memory contributions may be made to: Seats 4 Kids https://givingto.msu.edu/gift/ type in Seats 4 Kids and select the “In Memory of” option.
A memorial service to celebrate Dave’s life will be conducted Friday, October 1st 11:00 a.m. at St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church located at 4650 Meridian Road, Williamston, Michigan.
