Douglas Glenn Keith, 69, passed away at his family home in Mason, Michigan, on September 12, 2025.
Born on October 25, 1955, in Lansing, Michigan, to Donald and Belva. On November 22, 1975, he married his beloved wife, Valerie (Darrow), with whom he shared over 50 years of love and companionship.
Doug graduated from Mason High School in 1973 and went on to earn a B.S. in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology, where he graduated with honors. His career at General Motors spanned nearly 4 decades where he was known for his diligence, hard work, and innovation in many areas of automobile manufacturing and production. Here many coworkers became beloved lifelong friends.
He was an avid supporter of FIRST robotics. For many years during and after his career he dedicated his time inspiring and educating the next generation of technical and engineering leaders. His unquenchable thirst for learning and technical discovery was evident in his private pilot's license and the design and construction of experimental aircraft.
While his career and technical ambitions were notable, he will above all be remembered for his unwavering devotion to and love of his wife, family, and friends. Whether it was attending events to show support or providing a helping hand to those in need. He rarely missed a weekly lunch with his father and siblings and found peace and enjoyment in long walks at Burchfield park and exploring National parks. His infectious smile, laughter, and thoughtful conversation will be deeply missed by those he knew. His legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren, who carry forward his values, love, and spirit in their own lives. Each of them is a testament to the strength, kindness, and wisdom he shared so generously.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Valerie; son, Nicholas (Mary); daughter, Stephanie Nurre (Nathan); grandchildren, Wyatt, Elise, and Savannah Nurre; father, Donald Keith (Patricia); siblings, Linda Goodnoe, Donald Gene Keith Jr. (Cathy), Barb Rice (Larry); and sister-in-law, Vicki Thomas (Larry).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Belva Keith; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Joyce Darrow; and brother-in-law, Keith Goodnoe.
