Howard M. Oesterle, age 94, died Sunday, March 3, 2013. He was born January 21, 1919, to Michael and Ruth (Rouse) Oesterle on a farm south of Mason, the middle child among ten siblings. He attended the Walters School through the 8th grade and was graduated from Mason High School in 1937. He was graduated from the Ingham County Normal in 1940 and began teaching school at Aurelius Center that year. World War II interrupted his teaching for 4 years. Upon Honorable discharge from the Army Air Corp he returned to teaching and furthering his education at Michigan State University. His teaching experience took him to the Bunker Hill School, Eden School, Walters School, and to Leslie Public Schools as well as Mason Public Schools. Howard married Melva Perkins of Salt Lake City, Utah in 1944 who preceded him in death in 1986. To this union were born a daughter, Linda of Marshall and a son, Michael (Sally) of Midland who survive. Also surviving are brothers, Glenn Oesterle and Lyle (June) Oesterle and a sister, Irma Cullen as well as 2 step-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 621 S. Jefferson, Mason, MI 48854 with the Rev. Milan Maybee officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm and Wednesday from 10-11:00 AM.
