Joan Elaine Conroy

Joan Elaine Conroy was born at home in Mason, Michigan on December 17, 1943, to Nelson Willet Darrow and Ruth Elizabeth (Bigg) Darrow. Joan was the second born of seven children. She lived in the Mason area the majority of her life, graduating from Mason High School in 1962.

Joan worked as a waitress the majority of her life. She worked at Horn’s restaurant, Em’s Village Inn, the Hitching Post, and Big Boy. She also worked at Dart Container for a short time and retired as a greeter at Meijer.

Joan loved traveling in her younger years and was an avid Elvis fan. She had a chance to visit Graceland. In her more recent years, she enjoyed playing games, doing puzzles, word search books, and watching soap operas; her favorites were Everybody Loves Raymond and Survivor.

Joan is preceded in death by her second husband, Leonard Powell; her parents, Nelson and Ruth (Bigg) Darrow; her brother, Gary, and his wife, Jan Darrow; and her sister, Mary McDowell.

She is survived by her three children, Tricia (Keith) Moilanen, Tom (Dawn) Conroy, and Terry Conroy; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her four siblings, Jerry (Marcia) Darrow, Sue (Ann) Darrow, June King, Becky Garfield, and many nieces and nephews.

She passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 21, 2026, after a long battle with COPD.

Visitation will be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 621 South Jefferson, Mason, MI 48854, US, on July 27, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at the same location on July 27, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

A Committal Service will take place at Glendale Cemetery, 2500 Mt Hope Rd, Okemos, MI 48864, US, on July 27, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm.

The Mason Eagles, located at 1111 N. Cedar Rd., Mason, MI 48854, are honoring Joan’s life with a luncheon immediately following the cemetery.
