Our hearts are heavy with the news of the unexpected passing of Kathleen Jean Dieterle of Mason, Michigan. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many. On 8/26/23, she died at the age of 53. Kathleen is survived by her parents Myron & Jane (Prince) Kirby; and her sisters, Rhonda (Rick) Williams, Roxanne (Bill) Moran, and Angel (Jt) Toth. Step siblings Gary Kirby, Rodney Kirby, and Penny (Eugene) Truman. She was predeceased by her stepsister, Vicky Kirby.
Kathleen was lovingly known to her family as Birdie and grew up in Dansville Michigan. She graduated from Dansville High School in 1989.
She worked many jobs in her lifetime and always enjoyed helping people. She rounded out her career at MSU. She was a true Spartan and loved being part of the MSU family.
Kathleen enjoyed listening to music, cooking, and decorating her home as much as possible. Aside from spending time with family and friends, Javie and Mia were her two cats, whom she loved to care for and spoil as much as she could.
A sassy personality and a hilarious sense of humor made her stand out from the crowd. She was often found talking to friends and strangers alike, always finding common ground and shared interests. She had a way of making everyone around her feel accepted and welcome. Her spirit was infectious and she will be remembered fondly. Everything she did was filled with life, and it was obvious that she put her heart and soul into it. In the hearts of everyone who knew her, she was a special person, and she will be deeply missed.
