Larry R. Wheeler, 81, entered into the loving presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, July 23. The heart that gave so much is still. This hard working dairy and crop farmer who walked so many fields, picked up so many rocks, and milked so many cows, is now at rest.

Larry was born in Mason on January 14, 1940 and graduated from Mason High School in 1958.

After retiring from 39 years of farming, Larry worked for Michigan Caterpillar in the parts department for 15 years.

Larry enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling, golf, watching sports and spending time with his only grandson Samuel, as well as taking walks in the woods at the cottage (where he enjoyed seeing bear, deer, bobcats, porcupines, and turkeys).

He received Jesus as his personal Savior at Mount Hope Church where he was a member for over 20 years. He joyfully volunteered in the parking lot ministry and Meals on Wheels.

Surviving are his wife of almost 60 years, Janice (Marquedant); daughter, Lisa (Rick) White; grandson, Samuel; and son, David Wheeler, all of Mason; brother, Dick (Shirley) Wheeler; brothers-in-law, Donald (Karen) Marquedant, Bob (Sue) Marquedant; sister-in-law, Betty Pratt; special cousins, Gary Ginther, and Andy and Cynthia Wallace.

Funeral Services will be at Mount Hope Church, 202 S. Creyts Road in Lansing on Thursday, July 29 at 11am. Visitation is from 10am to 11am.

In lieu of flowers, you may make contributions to Mount Hope Church (Missions Department), 202 S. Creyts Road, Lansing, MI 48917 or to Youth Haven Ranch, PO Box 97, Rives Junction, MI 49277.

Special thanks to Sparrow Hospice workers Amanda, Jennifer, and Mary; your compassionate hearts are so appreciated.

My condolences to the Wheeler family on your loss. Larry and my dad, Joe, graduated together. Dad had a lot of respect for Larry as a gentleman and fellow farmer. I am sure they have already met up in heaven and are trading stories. May your happy memories and God's infinite grace bring you comfort and sustain you in your grief. Blessings to you...

Janice, Lisa and David,
We are sorry to learn of Larry's passing. We recently ran into a couple at the Yankee Springs campground who said they knew your family very well. Unfortunately I don't remember their names, but I do remember the gentleman was a preacher and loved outdoor activities. He did tell us that Larry wasn't feel well.

We are sorry to hear this sad news....and know how much you will miss your husband and dad. Treasure those decades of memories.

So sorry to hear about Larry. Such a great guy. He was our neighbor and gave our son Luke his first job feeding Larry’s livestock on the weekends when Luke was only 10. Larry will be very missed. Prayers & love to his family.

Dear Janice and Lisa and all your Wheeler Family,
We are heartbroken to hear your news. From the moment we moved into the neighborhood you and Larry and Lisa and Rick opened your arms to us and made us welcome. People could hardly believe when we'd tell them how we would get so snowed in on Tomlinson that it was impossible to get out of our driveway, let alone down the street, until we heard the growl and scrape of the John Deere tractor coming down the street with Larry bundled up for the hours of work ahead to rescue us all. Larry truly was our neighborhood guardian angel and our family will remember Larry for years to come and laugh and smile when we remember Larry and how he was not only our neighbor but our friend.

Janice and family,

I am so sorry to hear about Larry. My thoughts are with you at this time.

It has been a time since we have seen each other but you have been my friend for many years as we grew up together. I saw Lisa and David a few years ago when they came to the ICGS library in Mason to check on some Wheeler family information. I am also sorry for their loss.
