

Leo Henry Walter, born on June 25, 1928, passed away surrounded by loved ones on November 3, 2025, at the age of 97. Leo was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who was known for his dedication to his family and his passion for golf.
Leo's lineage traces back to Germany, with his great-grandparents immigrating to Medina, Ohio. He was born to Clarence and Dorothy (Mellert) Walter and raised alongside his three sisters, Elizabeth, Kathryn, and Arline. The family eventually settled in Dansville, Michigan, where Leo completed his schooling and graduated in 1945.
Upon graduation, Leo began his career at the Ingham County Road Commission and later joined the MSU Power Plants as a repairman in 1947, where he dedicated 40 years of service. In 1950, he married Wilma Walter, whom he met at the "free show." Together, they raised three children, Michael, Judy Montague, and Jacqueline, in Mason, Michigan, where they were lifelong members of the Mason First United Methodist Church. Leo and Wilma shared 49 wonderful years of marriage before her passing.
After his retirement in 1987, Leo and Wilma traveled extensively across the U.S. and abroad, creating cherished memories with their family. At the age of 72, Leo took up golf, a hobby that became his passion. He enjoyed playing with his niece Sheila, nephew Dan, great-grandson Caden, and many friends, and continued to play actively until the age of 95.
Leo is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Dorothy; his sisters, Elizabeth, Kathryn, and Arline, and his grandson, Patrick Walter. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Pete Hills; son, Michael (Ardith) Walter; daughters, Judy Montague and Jacqueline Walter; granddaughters, Heidi (Chad) Densteadt, Carrie (John) Braska, and Patti (Troy) Binkley; grandson, Buddy Walter; great-granddaughters, Amber, Lilly, Torri, Terra, and Briana; great-grandsons, Tate, Caden, Landen, Gavin, Easton, and Owen; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on November 9, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, located at 621 South Jefferson, Mason, MI 48854. The funeral service will take place on November 10, 2025, at 11:00 am at Mason First United Methodist Church, 201 E Ash St, Mason, MI 48854, followed by a committal service at Maple Grove Cemetery, 213 N Jefferson St, Mason, MI 48854.
