Matthew Dean Duel

Matthew was born on October 28, 1988, in Lansing, Michigan to Clayton and Karen Duel. He was an active and inquisitive child, always wanting to understand how things worked. He was passionate about animals, loved the outdoors, going fishing, hosting barbeques, shooting fireworks and having bonfires. He was fluent in sarcasm and was loved by his family and friends for his clever jokes and sense of humor. Matthew’s life was cut short, but the impression he left on the lives of others will never be forgotten.

He was a 2007 graduate of Mason High School. He worked hard learning many different fields of maintenance and construction. He was skilled in HVAC systems and received a certificate through MI OSHA – Asbestos Program, becoming an Asbestos Contractor / Supervisor.

Matthew is survived by his parents; Clayton and Karen Duel; his children; Ellie Brearley and Colton Prater (step-son); his siblings; Sister, Caroline Kouns, her husband Jeffrey Kouns, their children; Thomas and Natalie Kouns; Sister, Samantha Nelson, her husband Ben Nelson, and their children; Issac Hyde, Hailee Fry, Kaitlyn Fry and Jennavive Fry.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Mason Chapel, 621 South Jefferson, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm.
