July 31, 1971 – May 21, 2019
It is not the length of one’s life in the end, rather the depth of their life that defines them.
Michelle Hastings, beloved wife to Ryan Hastings, mother to daughters Melissa Murray and Mahayla Murray (Daunte Davis), daughter to Mildred Murray, sister to Ethel Morton and Christopher Murray, grandmother to Kristopher and Maroy Murray and Deon, Skylar and Aaliyah Davis, aunt to Zavier Murray, Marissa Murray-Morton and Brimesha Morton, passed suddenly at the age of 47 years old on May 21, 2019.
Michelle was born in Naperville, Illinois, July 31, 1971. She was preceded in death by her sister Maroy Murray. Michelle lived in Mason, Michigan where she raised her children and grandchildren with her husband and mother.
Michelle was a strong woman who lived her life lifting and building up others. She loved, forgave and persevered with her passions no matter what life threw at her. She advocated for others that didn’t have a voice for themselves. Michelle was gifted artistically and created beautiful jewelry, craft items and cards. Never one to ignore someone in need, Michelle went out of her way to help lessen grief or personal tribulations of family and friends. Even in death, Michelle’s gift of organs and bodily tissue through organ donation, helped and saved multiple people.
Poet Maya Angelou once said, “Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences and penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” This describes Michelle beautifully. She had great love for her family, especially her grandchildren. Michelle was one of their biggest advocates and she would sacrifice anything for them. It’s been said that people may forget what you have done but they will never forget how you made them feel. There is no doubt that Michelle’s love and compassion will live on in all of those she encountered.
Michelle’s passing has impacted those who loved her tremendously. Joining her family in grieving the loss of this beautiful woman are her close friends Zerraka Delacruz, Barb Mulka, Beenu Kaw and Laura Rakowski-Cole, as well as many other friends and family members.
A celebration of Michelle’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Church of Christ, 321 E. Holmes Rd., Lansing, MI 48910

I will miss the times I ran into you at school events and every time you ordered pizza. You always asked how I was doing and we talked about how Mahi was doing. You brightened my day and my life with your positive attitude. You are such an inspiration. ☺💜 miss you.

So many memories as all of you know. First, a very young momma, bringing her daughter into my classroom, afraid that her daughter wouldn't grow and excel in my room. Then, a true friendship that grew as I met the rest of your family over the years and we became like family. I remember Michelle as being so busy all the time! Never taking a break for herself. Always running around doing things for other people. When she did stop momentarily, she would fall asleep instead of being able to enjoy some time for herself. She was selfless. Giving. Putting great care into whatever she did. I cherished each November when I could see her more during the craft show season. Her giggle is something that rings in my heart. She's the only person that could call someone a brat and you knew it was a term of endearment. I cannot grasp that you are truly gone my friend. Sending prayers to all of your family, Ryan, Millie, Melissa, Mahayla, Daunte, the grand kids, Chris, Ethel and her children. Love you all. God speed my beautiful friend.
