Nancy Jane Beard

The middle daughter of a dentist and homemaker, she aspired to become a nurse. After graduation from Bedford High School she moved to Detroit and entered Mercy School of Nursing. She was proud of her many years of work at Mount Carmel Hospital as a Registered Nurse.

In September of 1948 Nancy married a Detroit native, Theodore Beard. They had one son, Robert. After living in Detroit for 50 years she and Ted moved to Mason, Michigan to live close to Bob, his wife, Lynn, and their four children; Monica, Maryellen, Kevin, and Colleen. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and had been active in the Mason Sparrow Volunteer Group. She lived for the past two years at Green Acres Retirement Home where she made several friends and received excellent care.

Nancy was known for her kindness and pleasant temperament. Her friendly personality and cheerful attitude made her well liked by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Laurel Gambrel, and younger sister, Phyllis Colwell. She will be missed by her elder sister, Betty Schmidt, many nephews and one niece and namesake, Nancy Ashley. As well as the family mentioned above, Nancy is survived by 10 great grandchildren.
