Robert Louis Sievert
November 13, 1951 – January 27, 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of Robert L. Sievert, 67, announces his unexpected passing at his home in Mason, MI on January 27, 2019.
Rob was born in Detroit, MI, on November 13, 1951 to Fred and Rose Sievert. He attended Stevenson High School and was a standout athlete as a young man. His passion for sports only grew throughout his life. In the winters you could find him bowling and shooting pool with his best buddies in Livonia, or teaching his young grandsons to play billiards in his basement. Summers brought many rounds of golf along with plenty of practice at the driving range. He would never turn down a chance to go hit a “bucket of balls” with his family or friends. When he wasn’t playing, he was happily cheering on the Detroit Lions, Tigers, and Red Wings.
Rob was married to his best friend, Melody (Burton) for 27 loving years until her passing in 2013. The two enjoyed a full life of traveling, going to the movies, checking out Polish restaurants in Hamtramck, cooking for family, and just being together. They especially liked getting away for a sunny weekend by the pool in Las Vegas whenever they could. In recent years, Rob spent many Saturdays proudly watching his grandson play soccer and hanging out with his daughters in Grand Rapids, MI.
Rob was retired from his career helping people as a social worker for the State of Michigan. Those who knew him will miss his unique sense of humor and his fun, down to earth personality. He is survived by his two daughters, Mary (Zach) Fales of Caledonia, MI, and Kristy (Garrett) Ziegler of Grand Rapids, MI; three grandchildren (Garrett, Trevor and Logan Fales), his brother Fred (Sue) Sievert of Cape Cod, MA, along with their 5 children and families. He also leaves behind his furry cat companion, Pookie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Rose, his wife Melody, and his grandson Cooper Fales.
At Rob’s specific request, there will be no official services at this time. He will be greatly missed.
The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Mason Chapel. Online condolences may be shared at www.grbdmason.com.
