Roger Lee Sharland
November 6, 1938 – June 26, 2018
Born November 6, 1938 in Dansville, MI, passed away on June 26, 2018, at the age of 79. Roger was a farmer. It was in his blood, as it was his parents before him. He was born in the farmhouse on Osborne Rd., the youngest of 7 children, and learned farming from his father. Roger purchased the farm from his parents, worked the land and milked many head of cows. He raised his daughters on the farm, instilling the benefits of hard work and sharing his knowledge. When he no longer milked cows in his own milkhouse, he went to work for his nephews on their farm. It was a hard choice to totally retire from farming, but, once he did, he still had farm duties which entailed tending the barn cats. Farmers never quit. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Archibald and Ada (Townsend) Sharland; sisters, Doris Richey, Verna Marshall, Pauline Smith, Ilene Fox; brother, Glen Sharland; and grandson, Jessie Sharland. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 21 years, Audrey Sharland; daughters, Vicky Sharland, Lisa Sharland; stepdaughter, Denise Thomas; stepson, Michael Miller; his sister Phyllis (Shaw) Raatz; grandchildren Alissa Sharland, Samantha Treloar, Jeffrey Sharland, Sierra Sharland, Rance Tatroe, Dustin Tatroe; and 9 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 621 S. Jefferson St., Mason, MI 48854. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2018 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Please wear U of M apparel in honor of Roger if you choose. In lieu of flowers, please give to the charity of your choice in memory of Roger. Memories and online condolences may be shared with the family at www.grbdmason.com.
