Shireen Kaye Luther, 82, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, in Lansing, Michigan. Born on November 25, 1942, in Mason, Michigan, Shireen lived a life marked by dedication to her family, community, and the values she held dear.
A proud graduate of the Michigan State University Agriculture Technology Program in 1975, Shireen applied her education with passion and purpose. She managed the family farm following her father's passing in the early 1970s, guiding it through years of transition with strength and resilience. When the family eventually stepped away from farming, Shireen embarked on a new chapter as a real estate broker. Her entrepreneurial spirit continued to shine when she partnered with her son Tom and her husband Gerald to establish Tomco Asphalt, where she remained an active and dedicated manager.
Shireen’s commitment extended far beyond her professional endeavors. She was deeply involved in her community through organizations such as the Kiwanis Club of Mason, 100 Women, Building 21, and as a co-founder of the Mason Promise Scholarship—an initiative that reflected her enduring belief in education and opportunity for all.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Gerald T. Luther and their loving children: Laura Engerman (husband, Matthew Engerman) of Bayside, Wisconsin, Jennifer Worrey (husband, Stephen Worrey) of Huntingtown, Maryland, Thomas Wentland (wife, Debbie) of Mason, Michigan, Janet Wolf (husband BJ) of Traverse City, Michigan, Amy Nowlan (husband Kevin Nowlan) of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and Mark Luther. Shireen was a proud grandmother to fourteen grandchildren—Gregory (wife, Christa) and Victoria Andrews; Stephen Thomas Worrey, Kristin Seklecki (husband, Mitchell) , and Daniel Worrey; Anne VanKirk (husband, Travis) and Elaine Bandy (husband, Tyler); Audrey and Benjamin Wolf; Elena and Annabelle Nowlan; Ana Zoe, Keegan Luther and Sierra Johnson (husband, Seth)—and great-grandmother to eleven great-grandchildren: Addilyn Gibson and Archer Andrews; Makenzie and Emilia Seklecki; Georgia Bandy, Gavin and Andrew VanKirk; Jayden Luther, Mia and Donovan Nicholson, and Saint Johnson. She leaves behind nephews Michael Jupp (wife, Karen Jupp) and Aaron Jupp of Mason.
Shireen found joy in knitting intricate patterns for loved ones, reading widely across genres that sparked her curiosity, and traveling—especially during winters spent in California. Summers brought cherished moments at Lake George and Torch Lake with family gathered close.
Her intelligence was matched by determination and generosity. Whether through civic engagement or quiet acts of kindness within her circle of friends and family, Shireen made a lasting impact on those around her.
May Shireen Luther’s memory bring comfort to all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched so deeply.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mason Promise Scholarship or a charity of your choosing would be welcome by the family.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date at Shireen’s Family Farm.
