Born on February 22, 1944, in Belding, Michigan, Shirley was the daughter of Earl and Anna (Wright) Beckwith. On November 6, 1965, she married the love of her life, Richard Wood. Shirley graduated from Greenville High School in 1962, setting the stage for a life filled with love, family, and meaningful contributions.
Before their marriage, Shirley worked alongside Richard at Greenville News, Inc. Over the years, she held various jobs, volunteered at schools while raising her children, and eventually dedicated 20 years to bookkeeping at Michigan State University's Department of Police and Public Safety, retiring with a legacy of diligence and professionalism.
Shirley was a devoted member of St. James Catholic Church in Mason. Her interests included embroidery, crocheting, baking, and spending quality time with her family. She found immense joy in watching her grandchildren grow, actively supporting them in their pursuits.
Shirley's warm personality and keen sense of humor endeared her to everyone around her. Known for her handmade baby gifts and clever jokes, she brought laughter and joy to those fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Richard Wood, and their children: COL Ret. Michelle Wood, Paula (Todd) Finison, and Ginny (Rob) Buckley. Shirley leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Eric and Kevin Finison, Chloe and Carly Buckley, as well as many adoring nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
