Susan Elaine Domrase, 69, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 13, 2019 in Lansing, Michigan.

Born May 12, 1949 in Lansing, Sue spent much of her life in the Mason area. She played clarinet and bassoon in high school, and, feeling a pull back to music after raising her children, returned to the instrument in 1999. She played in the Mason Orchestral Society, the Lansing Concert Band, the DeWitt Community Band, and the East Lansing Kiwanis Club Band, as well as participating in the St. Johns Mint Festival Band each summer. Sue served as a President for the Mason Orchestral Society, and currently served on the board of directors.

When she wasn’t playing music, Sue had many other activities filling her time. Her sense of style and artistic nature made her a skilled crafter. She was an excellent cook who specialized in comfort food, dips, and feeding a hungry crowd. Sue loved children, and she opened a daycare in her home to share her love and attention with many Mason area families.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Harry Domrase; her children, Jenny Young, Jeff (Melanie) Domrase, and Chad (Crystal) Domrase; her grandchildren, Katherine Young, Macy Domrase, Nolan Domrase, Reed Domrase, and Anderson Domrase; her siblings, Lee (Louise) Fairbotham, Diana Troutman, and Joanna Rens; and Buddy the dog.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 11:00am at the First Church of the Nazarene, 415 E. Maple St., Mason. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at church, and on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 from 4pm until 7pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Mason Chapel, 621 S. Jefferson St., Mason. Interment will follow in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Holt.

In honor of Sue’s love of music, memorial contributions may be made to the Mason Orchestral Society at Mason Orchestral Society, P.O. Box 473, Mason, MI 48854-0473.

I played in the Mason Orchestra for most of the time that Sue was a member and served on the MOS Board with her for all of those years. Sue did so much for the orchestra and it would not be what it is today without her. She served as President for four years and took charge of organizing several Silent Auctions during that time. See picture of a Clarinet Lamp the Sue created along with all of the signs, bidding tickets, etc. that she prepared for one of our auctions.

As a percussionist, I particularly appreciated her assistance (and Harry's) with moving the percussion equipment for our concerts. I always thought that if MOS had a "Most Valuable Player" award Sue would have won it every year. This is a great loss for the community, the orchestra and for Sue's family and friends.
