Verna R. Favorite, 87, died April 30th, 2011. She was preceded in death by her sisters Eleanor Palmer, Betty Shepard, and Gwendolyn Felton. She is survived by her brother, Roger Favorite, of Cedar, 12 nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Verna Ruth was born July 30, 1923 in Springport, MI, to William and Hilda Favorite. She lived in Springport and later graduated from Dansville Agricultural School. She was remembered as the captain of the first girls’ basketball team.
Verna moved to Mason after graduation, and in 1942 she started work at the SMA Plant. Wartime turned her into a skilled mechanic, and she could take apart and put together any of the machines. She retired in 1985 from Wyeth – Ayerst Laboratories with 43 years of memories and friends.
She loved to travel to the Smoky Mountain area with her dear friend, Janet Fiedler. She would also spend summers with the Palmer children at the cabin on Whitefish Bay.
She loved to garden, play golf and collect antiques. Her true love in life was doing things for her family and friends, and cheering at the girls’ basketball and softball games at MSU. She was their biggest fan.
Special thanks to the caregivers at ICMCF and McLaren Hospice. Services will be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 621 S. Jefferson Street, Mason, MI, on Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m., with Rev.
