Alan Robert Ross, 74, of Lyndhurst, Ohio passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2024. He was born on December 2nd, 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio to Robert and Ione “Andie” Ross, who both preceded him in death. Alan was a devoted husband to Karen for 52+ years, and a loving father to his children David (Kari), Michael (Ashley), and Steven (Brigette). Alan is also survived by his brother Brad (Anne), and his 5 grandchildren, Claudia, Carter, Shelby, Evelyn, and Anthony Ross. Dad was hard-working and dedicated, and always good with his hands. He spent nearly 40 years as a mechanical engineer for both Eaton and Lubrizol in the specialty oil additives business used in the trucking industries. Dad was known for creating a patented axle lubrication system for semi-trucks that was invaluable due to the extension to the useful life of those axles. Despite his strong work ethic and dedication to his work, Dad always made time to spend time with his family during our various activities. He was a longtime baseball coach for all three of his children, finally breaking through for a championship with Steve's Cincinnati team in the Lyndhurst Dad's Club league. He also served as the president of the Dad's Club for a couple of seasons. Dad also loved the outdoors, and was a frequent camper in addition to being both a tribe leader in Indian Guides as well as a Scout Master in Cub Scouts for all of his children. As his children got older there were many trips for canoeing and horseback riding, always filled with great memories. Dad was an avid train enthusiast ever since he was a boy, and his love of trains evolved into an entire O-scale train layout with multiple tracks and a fully developed cityscape, complete with landscape design and period characters and vehicles. Dad also enjoyed woodworking like his own father did and made his children/grandchildren several special keepsakes that will help him live on forever in our minds and hearts.Though Dad definitely didn’t like being the center of attention, and wouldn’t have wanted anyone to make a fuss over him, he deserves to have his long and wonderful life honored. Dad was a man of high integrity, strong commitment to doing things the right way, and was very loving and supportive to all his family and friends. He definitely left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us and the memories we will cherish forever. Relatives and friends are invited to gather for the Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Friday July 12th at St. Clare Church, 5659 Mayfield Rd. Lyndhurst, OH 44124.
