

ANN L. MUDER age 80, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2022, concluding a life that touched so many people in meaningful ways. Ann was born in New Kensington, PA to the late William and Janet Muder. A 1965 graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University, Ann married shortly after earning her psychology degree, and started her career teaching in a high school and working as a computer programmer for RCA in Cherry Hill, NJ. She and her former husband, Ben, spent several years in the Netherlands and Germany where their children were born.
In the early 1980s as a mother of young children, she earned her Master of Social Work from New York University and found her calling as a social worker helping people in difficult situations. She worked in medical / surgical crisis intervention in Westchester County hospitals in NY in the areas of renal/transplant, AIDS case management, rehabilitation, perinatal, pediatric, burn and outpatient services.
She culminated her career, serving as Assistant Director of Social Work at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Tarrytown, NY and as Supervisor of Medical Social Work at Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. She trained and mentored her staff into fine clinicians and served on a consulting team of medical ethics. While doing all this, she also ran a private practice for nearly 10 years.
During the early 1990s, Ann moved to Toledo, OH to provide her son with autism with better opportunities and served for many years on the Board of Trustees of Bittersweet, Inc., a forerunner in providing services to adults with autism. She also led support groups at NAMI of Greater Toledo, and volunteered with LOTT Industries and other organizations serving people with developmental disabilities.
Ann leaves behind many friends and family including her children Derek Arbutiski and Kristen Kirchgesler (Douglas); her sister Mary Jane Burin (John, deceased); her brother Frederick (deceased) (Marian); nieces Amy Ilyes (Laz), and Susan Haag (Jim); and nephews Craig Muder (Cynthia) and Michael Muder (Dawn-Elaine).
