Dana G. Pelotte S.S.S.

April 13, 1945March 30, 2014

FR. DANA G. PELOTTE, SSS. After a seventh month illness with an incurable lung disease, Blessed Sacrament Father Dana G. Pelotte peacefully and quietly died in the loving care of the Cleveland Clinic, his surviving brother Roger Pelotte (wife Becky and niece Jana) of Waterville, ME, his niece, Rosy Pilotte (sister-in-law Hildegard) of Pacifica, CA, his best friends Rev. John Thomas Lane, SSS & Rev. John Christman, SSS of Highland Heights, OH, P. Tomás Luna, of Albuquerque, NM and Robert Zeegers of Chicago, IL and the many prayers of his devoted loved ones, religious of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament and friends. After proudly living in Waterville, ME, graduating from Waterville High School in 1963, working for Firestone, serving in the US Army as an assistant to the to chief of chaplains during the Vietnam War (1965-67), receiving a Bronze Star, and caring for his dear mother Marguerite, he joined the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament (SSS). His twin brother, Bishop Donald E. Pelotte, SSS, of Gallup, NM (the first native American bishop of the United States) had preceded him into the SSS (1965-1986) and in death on January 7, 2010. His mother, oldest brothers Norris and Richard also precede him in death. He is survived by his many nephews (David, Jeff, Rickie, Jody, Robbie & Chad). After Fr Dana professed religious vows in the SSS in 1976, he served as Business Manager in Menasha, WI at Saint Mary Catholic Church (1975-82), Albuquerque, NM at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church (1982-5), New York City at Saint Jean Baptiste Catholic Church (1985-88) and Chicago at Notre Dame Catholic Church (1988-90). He was elected Provincial Treasurer (1990 – 1992) and moved to USA SSS headquarters in Highland Heights, OH at Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic Church. He served as a Pastoral Associate in Houston, TX at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (1992-5). He followed his call at this point in his life to then study for the ordained priesthood at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. He graduated (1999) and made history by being the first known twin to be ordained by his twin brother Bishop Pelotte, SSS on September 4, 1999. After his ordination, he served as Parochial Vicar of Saint Mary Church, Menasha, WI (1999-2001), Pastor of Saint Martin de Porres, Church in Taylorsville, UT (2001-2003), and Pastor of Corpus Christi, Houston, TX (2003-2013). Sadly, he was only able to serve for 10 days in Holiday, FL at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church before his illness. He proudly served the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament on the International Finance Commission and was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus. Also, in 2006, he was reelected Provincial Treasurer and served in that role until his death. In September 2013, he moved to USA SSS headquarters and worked tirelessly with his devoted nurse, Christine Detzel, RN, and the Cleveland Clinic to obtain a lung transplant. Sadly, he was not able to fight a final virus. He will be remembered for his humble service, love and compassion, not just by his family and friends, but for all the many parishioners he served. He served and was devoted to God and “living the mystery of the Eucharist.” His life will be celebrated with several liturgies all at Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic Church, 5384 Wilson Mills Road, Highland Heights, OH. We will begin with the Liturgy of the Hours, Office of the Dead at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue afterward until 7 p.m. with the Vigil Service. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, April 4, 10 a.m. in the same church, with a luncheon and procession to All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, OH for interment. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament. A memorial service will be scheduled later in Houston, TX at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Hello. I just wrote a story for St. Anthony's Messenger about Bishop Donald Pelotte. I would like to send it to the family as there is mention of Father Dana in it. Can you give me an email please?

Thanks. Hannah Campbell, Havertown, PA

I was so shocked to learn of Fr. Dana's death. I just happened to look up Corpus Christi in Houston where I was a parishioner for 30 years. My sincere sympathy goes to Fr. Dana's family and Blessed Sacrament community. I loved Fr. Dana and we found mutual compassion with the passing of his twin brother and my husband. I know he is reunited with his brother and family now and may you rest in peace for all eternity. God speed in your new life. Joan Seidel, Des Moines, WA (formerly of Houston, TX)

I had the great honor of attending the Ordination of Father Dana when I was in 8th grade and it is something I will never forget! What an awesome life event to witness, seeing a twin brother perform his ordination. I still remember Bishop Donald ask, "do you see my twin worthy?" I absolutely loved Father Dana! I will never forget him. To his family, my deepest sympathy. Please feel honored and blessed to have such a wonderful brother who touched the lives of so many! You are all in my thoughts and prayers and I thank the Lord for Father Dana's discipleship. God's Blessings and Peace to you!

We send our sympathy to Father Dana's family Roger, Becky and Jana and Rosy and all his close friends. It must be a joyful time up there in Heaven. He missed his dear twin brother Donald so very much. They both brought joy and light into our hearts over the years when we were blest to share time with them at Sea Colony in Florida ...We look forward to meeting them once again one day.... when the time comes.
Love from Dave and Bonnie Thelen
