She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elmer Capretta; her sister, Eleanor, and Eleanors husband, John Capretta; and her son, Jeff Capretta. Her legacy of love continues through her children, Deborah Edgar, Rebecca Shaw, and Timothy Capretta; her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Capretta; her grandchild, Erika Warton, and her husband, Chris; and her niece, Denise Capretta. She was also especially proud of her great-grandchild, Nicholas Shaw (son of Rebecca), and his wife, Rebekah.
Dorothy was a mother to many. A caregiver through and through, she spent her life opening her heart and home to anyone who needed care, comfort, or a place to belong. The aroma of delicious home-cooked meals was a constant in her house, where she was especially famous for her legendary chicken—a recipe so special that her family still hasnt been able to recreate it.
Over the years, she helped raise many children through her babysitting work and provided compassionate care to the elderly. She was also a remarkably talented seamstress who brought immense joy to her family with her craft, famously hand sewing beautiful clothing for her granddaughters baby dolls and sharing special moments sitting side-by-side with them.
To Dorothy, family was not defined only by blood, but by the love and care people shared. She raised two of her grandchildren, Rebecca and Timothy, as her own. When her sister passed away, she stepped in to become a mother figure to her niece, Denise. Later in life, she moved into the same assisted living community as her daughter, Deborah, ensuring they could stay close. Through every chapter of her life, her love extended to friends and neighbors, many of whom came to call her family.
Dorothy leaves a legacy expressed not just in words, but in the countless ways she showed up for others. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her boundless generosity, gentle spirit, and the love she breathed into every life she touched.
