JOAN M. CATALANO (nee Martin) age 80, passed away August 10, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Jerome "Jerry" for 58 years; dearest mother of Kathleen Staude (Gary), Donna Silk (Thomas) and Diane Catalano; devoted grandmother of Joseph Silk (Elizabeth), Shannon Silk, John Silk and Kaitlin Staude and great grandmother of Bradley Silk; dear sister of Charles Martin Jr. (Dolores) (both deceased), Marilyn Sbrocco (Joseph) (both deceased), Eileen Bohinc (Herman) and Patricia Dorsey (Roger); aunt and great aunt to many.
Joan was a graduate of St. Steven High School and later received her Associate’s Degree in Computer Information Technology. She worked approximately 25 years at Progressive Insurance Corporation where she held many positions from Executive Assistant to Sr. Computer Programmer Analyst. She was also very active in her community and church as a member of the Mayfield Village Citizens Advisory Committee and a long-standing member of the St. Francis of Assisi Mary Help of Families Prayer Group.
Joan’s greatest love was her family and the activities she shared with them. She was very active in the Camp Fire Girls and Girl Scouts with her three daughters. She had a great love of music and spent many hours shuffling her girls to music lessons, camps and concerts as well as being an annual subscriber and supporter of the Cleveland Orchestra. Joan also shared a love of the water with her husband Jerry. Being a family of five Catalanos led to the naming of each of the family vessels – ‘The Five C’s”. She and Jerry were very active in many facets of pleasure boating including excelling in classes with the Cleveland Power Squadron and were also longtime members of the Lake County Yacht Club. Joan and family enjoyed traveling to all five Great Lakes and many other waterways on their family excursions.
Joan was a close friend and benefactor of the Benedictine/St. Andrew Abbey Family and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joan's memory to St. Andrew Abbey, 10510 Buckeye Rd., Cleveland, OH 44104. Mass of Christian Burial - 10:00 AM Saturday, August 18th, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 6850 Mayfield Rd. Gates Mills, OH 44040. Interment - All Souls Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the DiCICCO AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, 5975 MAYFIELD RD. MAYFIELD HTS. OH 44124, FRIDAY August 17th, 4:00 - 8:00
