I did not make it through the long line last week, but wanted to send my condolences to the DiCillo family. I am truly sorry for your loss.  

I played on the first ever JCU women's golf team coached by John, who the girls and I affectionately referred to as "Coachie".  Even though we were assigned a new coach for the following years, John stuck around to assist for his love of the game and interest in this new program's success.  

I have many fond memories of Coachie from golfing and travelling to our Spring break destinations for golf.  On the course, when I became discouraged over bad play, it was always a breath of fresh air to see him walking the course and get to talk to him.  When I would complain about my poor play and ask for advice, he would not give me technical swing advice, but say something light-hearted and fun to get me to smile. 

When I think back to my college years at JCU, Coach is a big part of those memories that make me smile.

Bonnie and family,  my deepest sympathy on your loss of a wonderful man that you shared with so many.  You probably won' t remember me, but go back to the early 60s when your summer job was at Morgana Playground, and John was the coach at Warsaw!  I was part of the teen girls there that just loved and looked up to John.  I remember he coached football at Holy Name at that time, too.  I can still recall when he started dating the teacher from Morgana!!!  Bonnie, you ended up with one great guy!  I got to meet him again when I was a secretary at Padua in the late 90s and he was visiting there.  He hadn't changed, still that handsome, smiling Italian!  But as you see, even maybe 50 years later, I cannot forget John.  A good man always leaves a lasting, positive impression!  God bless his soul with a well-deserved reward of Eternity.  Try to take one day at a time, and the good Lord will see you through this sad time.

He was my guidance councilor at West G High School (class of '81).  What a sweet and pleasant man. Everyone at school loved him with fond memories.

Bonnie, we are so sorry for your loss. Phyllis had Mr. DiCillo as a counselor at West G and I had him as my linebacker coach at John Carroll. He is one of the best parts of my memories of playing for Carroll, which at times with me were no doubt a challenge. He stood by us and was a large part of us and I thank you and he for giving us his time and attention.

So sorry to hear of Mr. DiCillo's passing.  He was my guidance counselor at West G., and my husband's football coach at JCU.  We would see him at JCU homecoming games over the years...we both loved him dearly...such a kind soul.  And to this day, the only person I ever saw rip a phone book in half!

To Bonnie and all the kids and grandkids, I can only say that John will be remembered and cherished as a devoted and accomplished person in every way possible. He had a soft and gentle voice and was a friend to everyone and his smile was infectious. He has left a void that is not replaceable. My heart is heavy. Please know that you all are in my prayers that you will get through this ordeal.

There was always a smile from Mr. DiCillo. He was a wonderfully kind presence. An amazing man with a wonderful family. Bonnie, Dave, Polly and the entire crew - thoughts and prayers are with you - heaven just got a little brighter!!

Such a nice, kind man. I always enjoyed seeing and talking with him and so glad I had the opportunity to do so again at the Gilmour reunion earlier this summer.
