

JOSEPH R. Del BALSO "Sonny", 89 passed away peacefully at home with his six daughters at his side on October 18, 2017. Joe was the beloved husband for 48 years of Gloria (nee Miozzi, deceased). He was the honored and loving father to six daughters: twins, Joan Ricci (Tom) and Jean Del Balso; Susan Sprungle (Bob); Carol Michal (Bill); Laura Ploplis (Joe) and Diane Del Balso. Joseph was the proud and doting “Poppy” to grandchildren: Michelle and Matthew Michal; Joseph and Michael Ricci; Greg Sprungle and Alex (Anthony Deppen); and Gabrielle, Maria and Regina Ploplis. He was the cherished uncle of five and great uncle of seven nieces and nephews. “Sonny” is also survived by many caring relatives and friends. Joseph was born to parents Sabino (Sam) and Philomena (nee Longo) and grew up in Cleveland’s Little Italy with his sister, Rosemary (Colarochio, deceased). As an Army Corporal, he served as a medic in Korea. Upon his discharge, Joe raised his family in Richmond Hts. He was an expert craftsman and owner/operator of Joseph Tile and Marble for over 25 years. After retiring to Naples, Florida, over two decades ago, he was instrumental in bringing the game of bocce to The Glades, his condo community. Joe also enjoyed golf and fishing. He maintained his connections to his roots by marching in the Feast of the Assumption procession for many years, and was a member of the Little Italy Retirees. Joe was a family man of great faith and patience. He served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. While in Florida, he was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. For those wanting to pay their respects, the family will receive friends at DiCICCO & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 5975 MAYFIELD Rd. MAYFIELD Hts. OH 44124, on Friday October 20, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 21st at 10:00 am at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor, Ohio 44060 ( Please Meet at Church). Internment will follow at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.
