She is survived by her only child, her son George Andrew (Lauren) Umbarger.
Rose was a deeply loving and patient daughter, wife, mother, and friend in life. She was born in Hammond, Indiana on October 5th, 1942 and lived the majority of her life in the Chicagoland area. She spent several years of her 20s in Wichita, Kansas, and after her husband George Alfred's death in 2019 she moved to Cleveland, Ohio to spend time with her remaining family. Despite her long struggle with multiple sclerosis, she never failed to carry herself with poise and strength.
Always eager to learn and expand her horizons, Rose attended Indiana University and earned membership in the professional business sorority Omicron Delta. Her love for intellectual stimulation followed her through her entire life in her continued love of academic reading. When in the mood for
lighter fare she could often be found watching anything from Star Trek to Murder She Wrote while puzzling over the latest newspaper crossword. She was curious, selfless, empathetic, funny, and never any further away from a cup of coffee than she absolutely had to be.
Per Rose's wishes, there will be no funeral or celebration of life service for her. In lieu of flowers, well-wishers are encouraged to donate to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society https://www.nationalmssociety.org/how-you-can-help/ways-to-give or Helping Paws Cat Rescue www.helpingpawscatrescueinc.org
