DR. THOMAS JAMES KIRBY age 69, passed away March 11, 2021. Beloved husband of Margaret (nee Gillota); dearest father of Michelle, Dr. Eric and Dr. Andrienne Kirby (Dr. Kevin Kawalec); devoted grandfather of Theo Thomas and Bode Samuel Kawalec. Dear brother, uncle and friend of many. Thomas was born in Iroquois Falls, Ontario, grew up in the town of Guelph and graduated from The University of Western Ontario Medical School. He was Chairman of the Lung Transplant Program Cleveland Clinic from 1990-2000. A world-renowned transplant surgeon, he pioneered minimally invasive procedures and published influential research leading to several prestigious awards. He was named one of Americas TOP DOCS in 1991 and was a highly regarded mentor by the many he trained. Dr. Kirby was an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed canoeing in Maine and Canada.
