Thomas Tien Sun Kaung, 江 天 笙 , age 81, passed away from cancer on June 16, 2019 surrounded by family. Born in Shanghai, China, he came to the US for college where he graduated from Southwestern University and received his graduate engineering degree from University of Iowa. He had a long and distinguished career as a financial executive in retail.
After retirement, he donated his time and efforts to the Ridgecliff Foundation, and the Cleveland Chinese Senior Citizen Association. He served as president for many years of the Ridgecliff Foundation whose mission was to provide grants to mental health or chemical dependency non-profit organizations.
Throughout his life, he firmly believed in giving back to society and to helping people in any way he could. With the help of his grandfather, who was the Methodist Bishop of Shanghai, China, he received a full scholarship at Southwestern University. He has thus created an enduring scholarship fund through Southwestern University to aid other foreign students, like he once was. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Bishop Kaung Scholarship fund at www.southwestern.edu/giving. Select one time gift, other designation to Bishop Kaung Fund. Alternatively, contributions can be mailed to Southwestern University, PO Box 770, Georgetown, TX 78627. Directed to the Bishop Kaung Fund.
He was passionate about his family and friends. His generosity, support and wisdom were felt by all those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
