I was shocked and surprised to discover Alan's passing. I had a wonderful time with him in Berkeley during 2007 and 2008 as I finished my art studies at UC Berkeley before moving away to graduate school in Massachussetts. He was a true artist and inspired me greatly. I learned a lot from Alan. I will never forget the first time I met his delightful spirit at Worth Ryder Gallery. I will miss him always.

Peace.

Alan was a wonderful spirit. We connected through our admiration of a Bay Area artist, and Alan made sure I had the chance to meet this artist. Together we visited his studio, and thus began a correspondence around our art -- critiquing each others' work and offering support. He was an incredibly warm soul and a dedicated and talented painter -- his warmth, inspiration, and heart will live on through his work.

I send blessings and condolences to all of his family and friends.

I am saddened and surprised to learn of Alan's passing as I was in the process of looking him up to try and reconnect. He was one of my closest friends during the graduate program at UC Berkeley. He was always such a pleasure to talk with and we found common ground on a number of topics, including boy scouts, order of the arrow, painting and painters, travels to Europe, the moon over Scotland, etc... It was great seeing him and spending a good visit with him in his studio in Emmeryville(?) back in 96. So sorry for your loss, it is surely heaven's gain. Alan's spirit does remain.

Dear Treister Family -
I just read about Alan's death in the University of Pennsylvania Alumni Magazine. I am so very sorry for your loss. Alan and I went to Gables High, Temple Israel, and the Univ. of Pa. together. He was a wonderful human being. Charles - I am so deeply saddened for your loss - I know how close the two of you always were. I have such fond memories of the times we all spent together.
Sending love and healing thoughts.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Treister, Charles and Elliot -- so sorry to read of Alan's passing. Though we had not stayed in touch over the years since leaving Battersea Rd., I often remembered his warmth and creativity. It is truly inspiring to read of his gifted life and adventures after leaving Coconut Grove. (Saddest thing for me is that I have been living in San Francisco for 20+ years and did not know Alan was just across the Bay. It would have been nice to reconnect.) Kindest regards to you and your extended family and friends.

Deepest sympathies to Alan's family. I was a friend of Alan's in California over the past 10 years. I was inspired by his passion for painting and by his courage to follow his heart.

Dear Ken and Helyne: Today I found a sketch that Ken signed and gave to me when I was his secretary in 1976. That find prompted me to search the internet in the hope of finding some information about you and your family. I was deeply saddened to learn of Alan's death. While I only knew him for a short time when he was a young man, I was not surprised to read about his many talents and accomplishments. He was certainly like his father, which is a good thing. I am so so very sorry for your loss. Please extend my warmest condolences to Charles and Eliot.

Offering our deepest condolences during this difficult time.

So very sad to hear about Alan. In all honesty, except in passing once or twice, I haven't seen him since Boy Scouts and Troop 64, but he was a genuinely fine person, and saddening as this is, I am glad to hear what a wonderful life he had.

To the Treister family:
I am so sorry to learn of your devastating loss. I will peruse the obits now and then, see who among my parents generation or which professional colleague from the past may have passed. But to just see Alan has left us is a real blow.

Alan and I were classmates at CGHS Class of '75. I wrote the school newspaper article on his Silver Knight award; at that time near the end of 12th grade we were so eager to get out of Miami and go find the world. Well, from reading the above Alan sure found it!!! I believe he did the artwork on our Prom brouchure. It has been quite a while since I have seen Alan. But I will always remember the great New Year's Eve some of us - Alan, Teri and I included - celebrated in the north Grove in the late 80's.

Peace to you Alan and to the Treister family.

Dear Helyne & Ken & family,
I am so shocked and saddened to hear of Alan's passing.
I had the pleasure of really enjoying Alan as a co-worker in catering for several years. I loved him as an artist, and his great personality. He is such a good friend to have. Alan came to our Thanksgiving celebrations for 4 years as this is a special day for me and my family, extended family, and friends. He was especially great with our daughter Logan, who is now a sophomore in college. So sad, and I send Alan love where he is now, but send you all love as you deal with your loss. So sorry. Be at peace, Dixie, Dean & Logan Bohlke-Heyerly

Dear Helyne & Ken, Charles, Eliot, & family,

Alan lived his life with great joy. May those of us who cared about him, continue to learn from Alan. It is sad that he has passed, and also sad that the path of an artist remains such a difficult one. He shared his gifts with so many, and with such kindness. Ars longa, vita brevis.

Dear Cousins Helyne and Kenny, Charles , Eliot and families,

We are thinking of you all during this most difficult time with sincere and heartfelt compassion. Alan was truly an incredible person, and we know how much he loved and cherished you all, his very special, wonderful and immensely close and loving family. I just heard about Alan's passing and am shocked and saddened. I worked with Alan for a number of years in catering where we spent hours behind the bar talking about dating, food, art and life in general. We remained friends when we both left catering, but I hadnt spoken to him in the past year. Now of course I wish I had kept better touch with him this year. I will really miss his humor, stories and our conversations. My sincerest condolences to you all.

Dear Charles, Lisa and the entire Treister family, I read about Alan's passing and I want to send you my sincerest condolences. Andy and I are thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers. Much Love, Julie and Andy Drucker and Family.

Dearest Cousins: The Family has suffered such a great loss. Not only was Alan accomplished and talented, but he was charming and witty...so much fun to be with. I will always remember when Buddy and I paid Alan a visit in Paris. He and Buddy dragged me all over Paris looking for the best corned beef sandwich...so many laughs. Yes.."We will always have Paris".
Love, Cousin Ginger

I've known Alan for 8 years, and considered him a friend. Alan was a great guy to talk to any number of topics, and I will miss those most. I am very sorry for your loss.

I remember Alan from the days of scouting and school. He was a role model of great character, devotion, sensitivity, and gentility. It always felt so calming to be in his presence--a therapeutic soul, if there ever was one. He will remain in my heart as I remember him. My condolences to all of us who have lost him.

Kenny, Helyne, Charles, Alan and Eliot,
What a special family of cousins that I
Was able to grow up near through junior and high school. Vicki and I loved going to Battersea because they were a house of BOYS and we were a house of docile girls! Lots of missed years in between but I feel grateful to have shared lunch, laughter, love and hugs in the Grove right before Alan headed back to his passion of art and painting in S.F. You will always remain in my heart as a warm and gentle soul . With Love and Sadness, Cousin Jan
