Andrew J. Alpers passed away peacefully on Monday, December 24, 2012 at the age of 82. He was born in Bangor, Maine on May 6, 1930 to Dr. Jacob and Mrs. Dorothy Nathan Alpers. Andy spent his early years growing up on the campus of his father’s employer, a psychiatric hospital, and the stories he could tell! He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Ohio State University and was an avid Buckeyes fan and a fan of the UM Hurricanes, Miami Dolphins and the Miami Tridents. He was a high school wrestler, a Navy retiree, rugby player, journalist, public relations man and a Miami High Stinger by marriage to Linda Glance Rosenblatt Alpers. His memorial service was held at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels on December 26 and inurnment will be held after a military service at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida at a future date, when he will join his wife to be together again. A journalism scholarship has been named in his honor by the South Florida International Press Club, an organization for which he was a past president and treasurer and a tireless committee member of the scholarship program. He would have been very honored and pleased. He leaves behind his loving family, daughter Lisa Alpers Gerardo, stepdaughter Susan Rosenblatt Sands and stepson Michael Rosenblatt, their spouses, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many friends and former colleagues. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Habitat for Humanity, 3800 NW 22 Avenue, Miami, Florida 33142. Farewell to you, Andy, you were loved and will be missed.
