Haraguchi Sensei was an amazing Japanese language Professor. Not only was she an amazing teacher but she was a wonderful human being. She was always supportive and loving. I remember her clearly and am saddened to hear about her passing. I know she is now being embraced in the comfort of God’s Divine hands. I can only now pray for her family, children and loved ones to give them the solace and strength they need. They will be in my prayers.

I just saw the FIU email announcement of Asuka Haraguchi Mashav passing.
I never had the pleasure of meeting her in person but after reading her student’s comments it touched my heart.   She expressed her love through services to others. People like Professor Asuka Haraguchi Mashav inspire us to give more of ourselves. God bless your soul. Peace be with you and yours. - Amen

I'll never forget Mashav-sensei! One of the greatest teachers I've ever had! During my time at FIU, I took about 7 classes with her so I got to learn a lot about her. She was inspirational and such an amazing and supportive teacher. She helped me out so much during my time at FIU and I was able able to work a lot with her during my last few years there for Japan Club and things related to the Japanese Department. She had also agreed to be my advisor for my final CS project which is the reason why I was able to succeed in it. She not only supported me during school, but she even sent me an email after I volunteered at the Tokyo Olympics saying that she was proud of me. Getting that email from her was another reminder of the impact she had on me. I wouldn't be where I am without her. I'll never forget her and everything she had done for me.

Asuka Sensei was definitely one of the most passionate people I have ever met. I have immense respect for her as a person, who had carried politeness, passion, light, and strictness's. She gad always put a smile of our faces, and my heart will light up with positivity when it was time to head to her class. Thank you, Sensei. I have so much appreciation towards you and wish I had shown it when I had the opportunity to. Your hard work will never go unseen. I will always carry with me all the advices you have given me. I have so much more I would love to say, but for now, all I want is to thank you. Thank you for everything, truly. My condolences are with your family, friends, and loved ones. Rest in peace, and thank you again.

Haraguchi-sensei was one of the best professors I had the privilege to be taught by. I still think about her classes nearly two decades on. Thank you to the rest of the Mashav family for sharing Haraguchi-sensei with us. Sending love and fond memories your way.

Why? Why her? I can't believe the sudden news of her passing. There is no doubt that it is a great loss for the communities she engaged in. Asuka-san was a person who generously put into action what she believed would be good for those around her. She always made those around her feel warm with her smile. Miami Hoshuko was greatly benefited, and our gratitude to her is immeasurable. Thinking of the profound sadness of Asuka-san's three children and family is heart-wrenchig. Nevertheless, I believe they will overcome this emptiness and continue to live even stronger and more resilient.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Asuka.  She was truly an extraordinary human being; always ready to assist whoever was in need, she had a big heart and radiated much joy to those around her.  A gentle but strong spirit.  Our family truly admired her and  enjoyed the company of her family.  As a matter of fact, my daughter, Elaine, enjoyed playing with her boys over her girl classmates, during recess at Japanese school on Saturdays.  Our families got together at various times during our nine years of Japanese school together.  We wish we could have had more occasions to share.  Our family is currently living overseas since January of last year 2023 and we regret not having been able to be in Florida during these difficult times for the family.  We send Yariv and the amazing Haraguchi Mashav Trio boys and family our sincere condolences.  May you find strength and comfort in all the beautiful memories shared with Asuka, whom we all admired and loved.  Now you have an angel in the heavens to always call upon. My deepest condolences to the family. This news came way too soon. Mashav sensei was one of the most inspirational instructors that I had during college. She was talented in many aspects of Japanese culture to include calligraphy and karate.

I remember taking her calligraphy class and watching her performances. I still remember our first conversation in Japanese! Mashav sensei was also so helpful outside of the classroom and always made herself available to help others. Mashav sensei, I'm sorry to see you go.

I’m sorry for your loss. Mashav 先生 was one of my favorite and memorable teachers in FIU. It’s been 6 years since I’ve graduated and last seen her but I still remember her bright personality, smile, and laugh. I also remember the orange correction ink she used in Calligraphy Class. My favorite memory was her flipping someone over in one of the karate demonstrations at FIU. If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be where I am and who I am now. Thanks to her, I achieved my goal of living and working in Japan again. I wish I’ve thanked her in person. My deepest condolences 💐

Asuka Mashav was a big part of my education at FIU. When I was in undergrad I was quiet and shy, but my dream was to study in Japan. She agreed to write a letter of recommendation and I was accepted. Years later, I worked as the study abroad advisor and saw the old application letter.  Mashav Sensei wrote something along the lines of, “Grace is very serious about her Japanese studies. She is shy, but I believe she will overcome this and succeed in the program.”  Even after I graduated, she continued her support and wrote an email to me saying that I made her a “very proud sensei.” I’ll never forget her kindness. May she rest in peace. Sending warm thoughts to her family and friends.

Asuka Mashav was one of the most influential teachers to my life. I will never forget the things she did for me and her other students. She will definitely live on forever in our memories, but my heart goes out to her family. My condolences for your loss.

I am deeply saddened my Asuka’s passing.  Asuka lived with my family in high school and some of college. She was my sister and my friend.  There are so many memories.  My sincere condolences to her Yariv, her boys, her parents and sister. I will always love you Asuka.

I was blessed to meet Asuka when she attended Cocalico High School, 1990.   
I will never forget our many laughs.  
It was so fun watching her in NYC, she was just fascinated by the city.  
One of my many memories I will cherish, her and I, and a few other exchange students, we all sang in our given language, Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer.  It was truly a moment I will never forget as a 17-18 year old girl.  
I used to tell her “you are my Japanese friend who I love”.    Her smile and laughter is forever in my heart.
